Who We Are
Meet Mike
For Mike Bevan, fitness has always been a passion—but it became something much more when he started thinking about the future of his son Mikey, a 17 year old who is intellectually disabled. Mike saw a unique opportunity to build a business that could truly serve his family and the broader special needs community in the Chicago Western Suburbs.
After a successful 30-year career in corporate marketing, including leadership roles with Midas Auto Service, Life Fitness, Chamberlain Group, and Caterpillar, Mike began searching for his next chapter. He discovered Special Strong through social media and was immediately drawn to its powerful mission. Seeing everyone thrive with inclusive fitness resonates and he knew this was the opportunity he had been looking for.
Special Strong reflects Mike’s lifelong passion for fitness. Early in his career, he earned NASM certification to become a personal trainer. Later his work at Life Fitness helped him understand movement and how to improve fitness equipment for better results.
At Special Strong Chicago, Mike aims to help people of all abilities grow stronger, healthier, and more confident. Mike and his wife Holly, kids, Mikey and Lauren, and dog Buzz, want to create a community where every client feels supported and empowered to reach their full potential.
Let’s build strength together.
The Special Strong Story
By the age of 21, Daniel Stein had been diagnosed with a learning disability, mood disorder and autoimmune disease. After successfully using exercise to overcome his unique challenges, he felt called upon to help others with disabilities obtain healthier, happier, and higher functioning lives. Daniel obtained certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
In 2016, Daniel and his wife, Trinity, launched Special Strong, one of the only fitness centers in the country for individuals with mental, physical, and cognitive challenges. Today, Special Strong continues to specialize in adaptive and inclusive fitness training and is making a difference in the lives of children, adolescents and adults all over the world.
